Dr. Glass says, "The reason I like the Ideal Protein system is because I believe that the way to lose weight rapidly is to be on a high protein low carb diet. The Ideal Protein foods are all high protein, lowcarb/sugar, and balanced in fats. Diets that are high in sugar and carbohydrates (bread, rice, pasta) will cause the body to use the calories for "energy" at that time, but store the remainder of the calories consumed as body fat.
A diet that is high in protein and fat and low in carbs and sugars will cause the body to use the calories that it needs for "energy" at that time, but instead of "storing" more fat, a hormone called glucagon (a kind of starch) will be automatically produced by the body. Glucagon's function is to "burn fat". It will burn up any excess calories that you have just consumed AND begin to "burn up" your own "stored" body fat.
The Ideal Protein Diet is easy to follow because 3/4 of the day is planned and prepared for you. Busy people like the convenience that they grab a ready made shake, bar or microwave soup or chili while enjoying a fulfilling and tasteful meal. Meals consist of lean meat, salad, and vegetables that can be eaten at restaurants or at home with the family.
It may take a few days for the body to adjust to the decrease in calories and in carbohydrates (additional Ideal Protein foods can be eaten if needed during this time), however, after adjustment in eating habits, it is easy to follow.
